Security Guard Job Description
Founded in 1884, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts attracts students from all over the world and has campuses located in New York City and Los Angeles. The Security Guard will become extremely familiar with both the NY campus facility and the students, faculty and staff they are protecting. He or she will also track and monitor all visitors to the property and will direct people during emergency situations and serve as liaison between the property they are guarding and the Operations Department.
There are part-time positions, Monday - Friday, Saturdays and Sundays.
Key Job Elements:
- Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of students, employees, visitors, and other persons.
- Check email on Monday to get Admissions Department list of authorized visitors for the week
- Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons.
- Maintain Academy Lobby by organizing and maintaining security desk.
- Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions, and provide information.
- Receive deliveries i.e. mail, equipment and manage log
- Familiarize yourself with all maintenance vendors i.e. cleaners, janitorial supplies, plumbers, HVAC, electrician, etc.
- Keep Director of Operations & Building Supervisor informed of all vendors entering the building & on premises (except day/night cleaners).
- Afternoon/evening guard is responsible for doing night rounds & making sure all students have exited the building before locking front lobby doors.
- Monitor the security cameras, particularly those that show the front of the building.
- Patrol front of building every half hour to observe the activity on the sidewalk in front of both buildings (120 & 118 Madison Ave).
- The front of 120 & 118 Madison are smoke-free zones for Academy students, staff and faculty. Guard will respectfully ask smokers to move outside our property line.
Experience/Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of progressive experience.
Skills:
- Extensive experience responding to emergency situations.
- Ability to remain alert and focused.
- Good organizational and problem resolution skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience in corporate and education environments.
