Salary: $22.50- $27.45
Summary
The Security Officer supports a safe and secure environment for the residents, visitors, staff, and property of Horizon House. The Security Officer conducts random patrols of Horizon House property, responds to and investigates security incidents, reports safety hazards, and appropriately documents actions and observations made during their shift. The Security Officer also conducts receptionist duties while stationed at the reception center as needed.
Primary Job Duties
- Patrols the exterior and interior of the campus to ensure the property is safe and secure.
- Responds, makes contact and/or addresses suspicious circumstances and individuals using non-violent crisis intervention methods to de-escalate disruptive individuals.
- Answers phones, screens calls, takes messages, and transfers incoming calls to the appropriate department or resident.
- Greets visitors and guests, and assists residents, vendors and visitors coming into the building, consistent with Horizon House procedures.
- Prepares a daily security report (hourly log) and reports security concerns or activity.
- Responds to requests for service and emergency situations according to established procedures (Fire Control Panel/R-Care, Emergency Procedures).
- Conducts safety inspections or drills including fire drills, exterior lighting inspections, and perimeter safety inspections. Reports the outcomes to enhance the safety of the community.

- Regular and punctual attendance is required.?
- Ensures timely completion and upkeep of all training requirements, background checks, and other regulatory requirements as per established deadlines.?
Essential Experience/Knowledge/Education/Specialized Training
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Previous structured security training to include de-escalation training or experience of at least one (1) year Security Officer preferred.
- The position requires the willingness and patience to professionally communicate with seniors.
- Must be personable and show respect for every individual as per Horizon House core Values.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Must be able to respond appropriately and professionally to emergency situations that may include other persons that put residents or the facility at risk.
- Good communication skills and a high degree of accuracy are essential.
- English language proficiency is required including written, spoken, and understanding.
Job Requirements
- Reads, writes, and speaks English. Demonstrates ability to follow written and oral instructions in English. Demonstrates ability to speak clearly and communicate concisely over the radio.
- Familiar with using internet applications, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook email, and other basic computer tasks.

- Knows and carries out policies and procedures dealing with emergencies and all other situations. Demonstrates the ability to work in close cooperation with residents, peers, and management. Deals with multiple priorities/demands.

Materials/Equipment Directly Used
Use of equipment including multi-line phone, voice mail, fax, copier, computer, two-way radio, electronic door security system, surveillance equipment, elevator.
